          Mrs. Ushtavaity Davar Canteenwalla will review the basics of cancer genetics to create more awareness about factors contributing to a hereditary form of breast cancer. Anecdotally, we know that there is a high incidence of breast cancer in the Parsi population.  While much research has been done in breast cancer genetics, we have yet to fully understand what is causing cancer to occur in the Parsi population.

          With cutting-edge insight and the latest research, attendees will be deeply informed and prepared. Mrs. Canteenwalla's talk will cover these points:

1.) What is the difference between sporadic, familial, and hereditary cancer?

2.) If cancer is hereditary, how is it inherited?

3.) What information will genetic testing give you?

4.) When to consider genetic counseling and testing

          Mrs. Ushtavaity Davar Canteenwalla, MS CGC, graduated with her Master's in human genetics from Sarah Lawrence College in 2005.  Since then, Ushta has been practicing as a genetic counselor in various disciplines, including prenatal, pediatric, cardiac, and cancer genetics. Most recently, she managed the high risk pregnancy center at Columbia University Medical Center. Currently she is at home with her son and works as a consultant part time.
